The Conflat B saga just keeps getting worse. I'm having major difficulties with masking on the resin containers, even Tamiya low-tack masking tape pulls the paint off. Green Frog tape has been suggested, so I've ordered some of their low-tack tape - it's yellow! We'll see how that goes when it arrives.
So, putting those to one side I thought I'd put the transfers on the Conflat wagons. Only they are too big. The wagon side where 'Conflat B' is supposed to go is 2mm, and the transfer is about 2.2mm. Equally, where the '12t' and wagon number are suppose to go is about 10mm, between the wagon end and the first shackle loop - the number alone is 10mm so arrrrggghhh! I thought I try applying an 'XP' (same height problem as the 'Conflat B' ) just to check, but after three of them broke up due to not releasing from the backing evenly they've gone in the bin. Fortunately Cambridge Custom Transfers do sets as well - £30 per wagon for Birds-Eye on ex-LNER wagons or £30 for eight BR livery ('Door-to Door' I assume) containers, and two each of ex-LMS wagons and the other type of Conflat B (no chain pockets). Can I justify £30 per wagon for transfers? This is getting insane.
Meanwhile, the water tank is ready for transfers and then ladders. I've had to make up a small platform round the filler cap - it turns out that super glue between perspex and white metal goes off instantly. Luckily it was on the centre line, but I'd marked the longitudinal position using the numbers from the old incorrect length tank. Oops. Anyhow, since I can't find any prototype pictures or and DD7 diagram picture I'm just going to nonchalantly walk away whistling.
