Connoisseur kits always arrive in nice neat, simple, packaging. And very comprehensive instructions.
Both sides made up. There's a lot of work there.
The, er, cappings I'll call them fitted on to the tops of the sides. The instructions give good advice on how to go about this - the trick is make the curves gentry, if the brass kinks you've probably got trouble. Take it steady and it works out.
Bogie mounts and hand brakes. I'd no idea how these handles should be fitted at this stage as all the photos I could find only showed mangled ones, so I left that for later.
3 billion rivets later... the folds along the tops and bottoms of the sides, with the twiddly bits bent gently round the curves. This was easier than it looks.
And then attached to the other body bits.
The side shackle loops fitted.
All done. Bar hand brake hadles. I really enjoyed this kit, and love the wagon. It would be great if someone made a kit of the 120-ton version.... so many wheels.
I love this wagon. The kit is no longer available but I luckily came across it second hand. Bending the top rails on the sides was daunting, but as with all Connoisseur kits the instructions are very helpful and disasters were avoided. This kit has the record for the number of rivets to punch to date, by some margin. There's more weathering to do now the transfers are on, courtesy of Railtec. Sprung buffers added as usual.
