What's in the box - the wheels were extras.
Sole bars, buffer beams and end floors folded and/or rivet punched.
Running plate all set for blast off.
Van sides and stuff under the running plate done. Air and vacuum pipes added to the sole bars.
Ends added. Everything still just fitting like it should.
Sand boxes and roof added, note the valances on the roof ends. These are omitted in the Shedmaster kit. The roof here is now a good positive fit , there's no need to fix it - great for painting and adding glazing.
Buffers and couplings - I went off piste here.
The bogies are brass, nice kits in themselves. I have no idea why the platform lamps are there.
A sight to lighten up the heart of a kit builder. There's even sanding pipes.
You always get a good feeling when effort has been out into the packaging.
In the absence of six pairs of hands. The white painted pegs were a mistake, the paint burns and leaves a stick residue.
Laminating up the cabin sides. I used the blunderbuss soldering iron here, 180W stained glass jobbie, it's that much quicker.
The cabin assembled. Notice the interior planking and straps in the verandah - you don't get that with the Shedmaster version.
And the body meets the running plate.
Lovely brake rigging , nice neat castings.
Replacing the white metal buffer heads and shanks with ones from Markits, but using the kits own castings to make internally sprung ones. Expensive, but ship, tar and all that.
You see that the rigging is all in there.
Et voila.
This was 'the' kit as far as I was concerned, another of those wagons that just shout 'build me'. I've really nothing to add to the photo comments, the whole thing just went together with an absolute minimum of fettling. Deep joy. Transfers except the lettering from Railtec, lettering from, I think, the Parkside Toad van transfer set. Can't really remember.
