Exactly 1 year and 2 days after buying the kit at Guildex I finally finished the painting! Just the lettering to go (the word 'Brick' being provided by a member of this parish) and then a tidy up and done. The only photos I can find are ones from 1966 and one from 1967 at Euston (On Paul Bartlett's site) and the wagon seems in very good repair so no replacement plank type weathering, though there is one from 'after 1957' at Bradford (same site) that does have repair but I'm studiously ignoring that. Also, no white on the handbrake lever handles - seems all wrong but the 60's and all that I suppose. I'm hoping this years Connoisseur purchase, a BEV bolster, might get done a tiny bit faster...
This year I lost all reason and volunteered to do some stewarding at the event, which turned out to be quite fun in a masochistic sort of way. The Shedmaster Queen Mary brake van, the two Birds-Eye Conflats and the Cardon went with me but never returned, having gone to new homes via the Bring & Buy stall. I hope they are happy. I miss them. Sitting on their siding looking.... sniff. I ended up only buying a Connoisseur BEV bogie bolster kit and a lot of sprung buffers. How is itpossible to make chicken curry have zero curry flavour? Answers on a post card to the show caterers. A great show very well done, by entirely put on by volunteers - well worth going to if you are of the O gauge persuasion, or indeed like to see excellent layouts and poke about the trade stands.
